I had been embarking on a quest for growth and radical honesty when I was dealt a massive blow to my self-esteem and to my belief in my goals being worthwhile pursuits. Thankfully, I was surrounded by supportive family and friends, and their kindness combined with what I had learned about self-love and “tending to one’s inner child” helped me overcome, albeit somewhat slowly.
This illustration depicts my inner child lost in a dark, threatening forest, being watched by fiends with ill intention. She holds a tentatively glowing talisman to her heart… or is it her heart that will light the way and cast back the shadows?
