Joji’s Sanctuary, a Tribute

Joji’s Sanctuary is, melodically and lyrically, one of the songs that have touched me the most. His video for the song tells the story of a space crew that have lost their drive and the one crew member who takes drastic steps to stir his best friend out of an ennui-based depression. As a fan of older movies with hokey special effects and a lot of heart, the video’s aesthetic as well as Joji’s soulful, earnest lyrics and increasingly gifted voice spoke to me so deeply I was moved to pay tribute to it all. Being so moved also led me to try to portray a person in a less stylized way.
